Monitor progress of implementation and identify needed enhancements.
Description
Action 1
Agencies will report to the Governor and the Governor’s Southern Resident Killer Whale Task Force on progress.
Action 2
The task force will identify new ideas, changes, and other actions needed to recover Southern Residents.
Recent Progress
- In 2021, the Legislature funded a position in the Governor’s Salmon Recovery Office to monitor progress of the task force recommendations and coordinate implementation. The Washington Department of Fish and Wildlife also received funding for a policy position to work on reducing vessel impacts on orca.
- A progress report was completed in 2021.
- The Puget Sound Partnership’s Leadership Council reviewed the progress of Puget Sound-related recommendations in December 2021 and adopted a target for Southern Resident killer whales as an indicator of health of the Puget Sound.
- Executive staff at the Puget Sound Partnership continue to actively lead and harmonize implementation of outstanding vessel recommendations and promote coordination with Canada.
